Add a Relative Date to Tasks

A relative date is a date that initializes once an event has been triggered by the criteria set in the option fields.

Add a Relative Date to Tasks

1. Click the Global + Icon and then choose Create Task.

Alternatively, you can navigate to the Tasks Dashboard and select a task to edit.

2. Click Select a date in the Due date field.

3. Choose Relative date.

4. Select a time interval.

Example: Days, Weeks, Months, Years.

5. Input a number in the text field.

6. Specify if this date is Before or After the event trigger.

7. Choose Date or Status Change Event for the event trigger type.

  • Selecting Status Change Event will trigger the relative date based on when the task changes status.

  • Status Change Event will only be available if you selected After in the previous step.

  • Two more drop-down menus will load in relation to the selection you make.

8. After selecting Status Change Event:

  • Select the Task or Subtask title which will have a change in status.

  • Select the Status that should trigger this relative date.

9. After selecting Date:

  1. Select the Task or Subtask title that already has a date associated.

    • You can also default to selecting the Parent Task.

  2. Click the Select Task Date drop-down to select a date already created within the task.

    • You can also click Date Task is Created if you wish to measure a due date or start date from the time the task was initially created in Canopy.

10. Click Add Relative Date.

Add a Relative Date From the Task List

Dates can also be added directly from the task list.

1. Navigate to the Task List and click on one of the in-line date options.

3. Choose Relative date.

4. Select a time interval.

Example: Days, Weeks, Months, Years.

5. Enter a number in the text field.

6. Specify if this date is Before or After the event trigger.

7. Choose Date or Status Change Event for the event trigger type.

  • Selecting Status Change Event will trigger the relative date based on when the task changes status.

  • Status Change Event will only be available if you selected After in the previous step.

  • Two more drop-down menus will load concerning the selection you make.

8. After selecting Status Change Event:

  • Select the Task or Subtask title which will have a change in status.

  • Select the Status that should trigger this relative date.

9. After selecting Date:

  1. Select the Task or Subtask title that already has a date associated.

    • You can also default to selecting the Parent Task.

  2. Click the Select Task Date drop-down to select a date already created within the task.

    • You can also click Date Task is Created if you wish to measure a due date or start date from the time the task was initially created in Canopy.

10. Click Update.

11. You can Edit a task date by clicking on a date in the date columns.

Add a Relative Date From the Task Workspace

1. Click on a task to bring up the task workspace.

2. Select Add a date within the Task details section.

3. In the Select date type dropdown, select the desired date type.

4. In the Select a date field, click Relative date.

10. After selecting Date:

  1. Select the Task or Subtask title that already has a date associated.

Add a Relative Date to a Subtask in the Task Workspace

1. Under the Work tab, select the dropdown arrow in line with the subtask with which you would like to add a relative date.

2. Click on the Add a tool option.

3. Select Date.

4. In the Select date type dropdown, select the desired date type.
