How do I view File History?

Updated this week

Viewing file history helps you track edits, uploads, access changes, and other actions. This supports accurate record-keeping, client transparency, and compliance during audits.

Note: File history tracking begins on August 25, 2025. Any actions taken before this date are not available in history.

View File History

  1. Navigate to the file you want to view.

    • Client Record: Go to Clients > Client List > select a Client Record > Files > select the file.

    • Global Files: Go to Files > choose Client Files, Internal Files, or My Files > select the file.

  2. Click the three-dot icon on the right-hand side of the file.

  3. Select View History from the menu.

  4. Click View More History to see the complete history.


File History Actions Logged

The following actions are recorded in file history:

  • Annotated file

  • Archived file

  • Combined

  • Added file

  • Deleted file

  • Deleted annotation

  • Downloaded file

  • Edited file

  • Locked file

  • Mde visible to Client Portal

  • Moved file

  • Organized file

  • Modified PDF fields

  • Printed file

  • Removed visibility from Client Portal

  • Renamed file

  • Sent an eSign request

  • Sent file link

  • Unarchived file

  • Unlocked file

  • Unzipped file

  • Viewed file


Troubleshooting

  • If View History is not visible, you may not have the required permissions. Contact your Canopy admin to confirm access.
