The Desktop Assistant streamlines your file workflows—editing, uploading, and migrating client documents—all from your desktop. Understanding file behavior helps prevent errors and improve efficiency.

Required License: Document Management

Required Integration: Each user download and install the Desktop Assistant on their device.

Required Permissions: Admin permission or staff with Desktop Assistant permissions enabled.

1. Can multiple team members edit a file at once?

No.
When a file is being edited, it’s locked in Canopy to prevent simultaneous changes by other users.

2. Can I upload files larger than 100MB?

Yes, but some limitations apply.


3. What actions are restricted for files over 100MB?

You won’t be able to:

  • Preview the file

  • eSign or annotate it

  • Add pages

  • Edit via the Desktop Assistant

  • Combine files

  • Use the file to create an eSign template

You can download the file, but you’ll receive a warning that it hasn’t been scanned for viruses.


4. Will large files be scanned for viruses?

No. Files over 100MB are not scanned.


5. Does this affect existing large files?

No. These restrictions only apply to newly uploaded files over 100MB.


6. What file types are supported for upload?

Supported upload formats include:

7. What file types are supported for editing?

You can edit the following file types using the Desktop Assistant:

.xlsx


8. How do I assign uploads to the correct client?

Use the Smart Match feature when migrating files or upload directly within the correct client folder using the Desktop Assistant’s built-in client search.
