Billable Revenue

Purpose

To measure the total value of work that has been completed and is eligible for billing (e.g., time or services logged as billable), regardless of whether the revenue has been invoiced yet. This helps firms monitor productivity and revenue potential in real time.

Need-to-Know Glossary of Terms

  • Line Item Billable Amount - This is the amount shown in the amount column in the edit invoice view. This is equal to the line item rate time the quantity.

  • Time Entry Hours - This is a measure of time entry hours that have been billed.

  • Time Entry Billable Amount - This is the amount the time entry could be billed based on the current service/user rate. If the time entry has already been billed, this rate gets locked in place based on what the rates were on the invoice date.

  • Invoice Date - The date listed on the invoice as invoice date.

  • Invoice is Archived - Attribute that allows you to filter whether you want to include invoices that are archived or not.


Report Structure Overview

  1. Invoice Date Filter - Setup to display current month.

  2. Invoice is Archived Filter - Filter showing that archived invoices are not included in the revenue totals.

  3. Line Item Billed Amount - Line item billed amount for current month.

  4. Invoice Date - Set to display current month revenue.

  5. Change Analysis - Displays an analysis of changes since the previous month so you can quickly identify positive or negative trends.


Suggested Modifications: Want to change the comparison date value from previous month to something else (e.g., previous quarter or previous year)?

  1. Navigate to the Configure panel on the right hand side.

  2. Select the Settings tab.

  3. Scroll down to the Compare with section.

  4. Choose from the comparison options or create your own by selecting Custom.


Primary Use Case Scenario

An admin uses this KPI to track how much billable work their team has completed during the month. This allows them to assess team output and ensure that recorded work aligns with client engagements and billing expectations.


Actionable Insights

Visibility into how much revenue is ready to be billed and ability to forecast upcoming billing amounts and compare them against billed revenue to ensure proper invoicing.
