Insights: Monthly Revenue by Client

Purpose

To provide a detailed month-by-month breakdown of revenue earned from each client for the previous 12 months. This report also shows how much revenue earned for each service item for more granularly.

Need-to-Know Glossary of Terms

  • Line Item Billed Amount - This is the amount billed for the line item shows on the far right column of the invoice (this does not include taxes).

  • Time Entry Hours - This is a measure of time entry hours that have been billed.

  • Service Item Name - Refers to the designation used to identify the specific service billed to the client.

  • Time Entry Billable Amount - This is the amount the time entry could be billed based on the current service/user rate. If the tie entry has already been billed, this rate gets locked in place based on what the rates were on the invoice date.

  • Client Name - Customer name, if a display name exists, that will be the primary search term. If there is no display name, first and last name will be displayed.

  • Billable Revenue Formula - The sum of all time entry billable amounts.
    sum(Time Entry Billable Amount)

  • Hours Billed Formula - The sum of all time entry hours.
    sum(Time Entry Hours)

  • Invoice Date - The date listed on the invoice as Invoice Date.

  • Invoice is Archived - True if invoice is archived, false if it is not.


Report Structure Overview

  1. Invoice Date Filter - Filtered for the previous 365 days

  2. Invoice is Archived Filter - Filter showing that archived invoices are not included in the revenue totals

  3. Row - Client Name

  4. Expanded Row Level 2 - Service Item Name

  5. Column - Invoice Date monthly

  6. Value - Hours billed formula (sum of time entry hours)

  7. Value - Billable revenue formula (sum of time entry billable amounts)

  8. Value - Billed revenue formula (sum of line item billed amount-excludes taxes)

  9. Grand Total - Grand totals for hours billed, billable revenue, and billed revenue for each row


Suggested Modifications: Want to move the value columns in a different order?

  1. Navigate to the Configure panel on the right hand side.

  2. Scroll down to the Values section.

  3. Drag and drop to rearrange to the desired order.

  4. Click Apply.



Primary Use Case Scenario

Utilized by a Client Account Manager to monitor client billing patterns and revenue contribution over multiple months. Can also help track the impact of new or lost clients on monthly revenue totals.


Actionable Insights

Helps identify potential churn or drop-off in client engagement enabling targeted outreach to clients whose revenue is declining.
