The Queued Work tab is a shared pool of unassigned tasks that any team member on the task's assigned client role can pick up.
Queued Work replaces the old "grab the next return from the shared drawer" model. When you finish a return during tax season, open the tab and pick up the next available one — no duplicated effort, and nothing lost between hands.
📌 You'll only see tasks here if your firm uses Roles and your admin has added you to the relevant client roles. If your Queued Work tab is empty when you expect work, check with your admin. See How do I set up the Queued Work tab for my team? for the admin side.
Table of Contents
Pick Up a Task From the Queue
Go to Work > Tasks List > Queued Work.
Find the task you want to pick up.
Click the Assignee(s) cell on that task's row.
In the Edit assignee(s) window, search for and select your name.
Click Update.
The task moves to your My Work tab and disappears from Queued Work, so no one else picks it up.
Pick Up Multiple Tasks at Once from the Queue
Skip this section if you only need one task at a time.
Go to Work > Queued Work.
Check the box next to each task you want to pick up.
Click the Edit assignee(s) button in the toolbar above the task list.
Search for and select your name.
Click Update.
All selected tasks move to your My Work tab and leave the queue.
A Task Isn't Showing Up in Your Queue
If you expected a task in Queued Work but don't see it, one of these is usually the reason:
Someone already picked it up. Once a task has an assignee, it leaves the queue.
You aren't a member of the role assigned to that client's task. Ask your admin to check your role assignment.
The task already has assignees set directly. Tasks appear here only while no one is assigned.
Summary
The Queued Work tab lets any team member on a client's assigned role pick up shared tasks without waiting to be assigned. Claim a task by adding yourself as the assignee, and it moves to your My Work tab so the rest of the team knows it's covered.
