What's This?

Engagement items are the pieces you can plug in to create a custom Engagement. Engagement Items are service items and the templates you create help keep everything streamlined throughout the busy tax season.

Create an Engagement Item Template

The only area in Canopy where you can create an Engagement Item template is in Templates.

1. Select Templates on the global navigation bar.

2. Click Engagement Item.

3. Choose Create template/Create new.

You'll only see Create new as an option when you already have templates listed.

4. Enter an Engagement item name.

The Engagement item is displayed as the service name on the proposal.

5. Choose the Service item.

You'll need to have service items created before selecting this field. Learn how to create service items here!

This is where you can also add:

  • Rate

  • Rate type

  • Tax due with invoice (%)

6. Add a Description of the Engagement item.

Format this area however you'd like!

7. Select a Billing frequency.

Options include:

  • Weekly

  • Monthly

  • Quarterly

  • Yearly

  • Upon acceptance

  • Upon completion

8. Enter your terms of service in the provided text box.

9. Select one or more Task templates for the Engagement item.

These tasks will be created right after your client accepts the engagement.

Canopy Tip: We recommend creating associated task templates before starting on an Engagement item template. If you don't, you can always save the Engagement item template as a draft, go add your Task template, come back to the Engagement item template draft, and add the Task template at that time!

10. Click Save.

Easy peasy right?! Now, let's move on to managing an Engagement item template in Canopy.

Edit

Edit a template by selecting the three stacked dots in line with the listed template and clicking Edit.

Duplicate

Duplicate a template by selecting the three stacked dots in line with the listed template and clicking Duplicate.

Delete

Delete a template by selecting the three stacked dots in line with the listed template and clicking Delete.

Note: Engagement Item Templates cannot be unarchived or restored at this time!
