AI Questionnaire Pre-fill automatically suggests answers using data from the client record, including contact info, notes, and uploaded files (like W-2s or tax docs).
This feature only works on newly created questionnaires and must be toggled on in Experimental Features.
Smart Intake Credit Update
A Smart Intake credit is applied only when you take an AI action for a client, such as:
Drafting a questionnaire with AI
Generating an AI document checklist
Enabling Pre-fill Responses
How Credits Work
Once a Smart Intake credit is applied for a client, AI Pre-fill is available for the rest of your subscription cycle with no additional Smart Intake credit usage for that client.
Non-AI questionnaires and document checklists do not use credits, though you can use a credit by enabling Pre-fill Responses when creating a questionnaire.

Create a Questionnaire and Enable Pre-fill Responses
Click the Global Plus (+) icon and select Questionnaire.
Enter a Questionnaire title or choose a template to get started faster.
Complete the Questionnaire details, including:
Client
Add to existing task
Assignee
Due date
Reminder settings
(Optional) Toggle on Generate with AI if you want AI to help build the questionnaire.
This is not required to use Pre-fill Responses.
Click Create.
Toggle on Pre-fill Responses to automatically populate answers using the selected client’s existing data.
Review, build, and edit the questionnaire as needed, then Save or Send.
Note! After sending a Questionnaire, the AI Pre-Fill tool may take a few minutes to process your contact’s data. Wait a few moments before using AI Pre-Fill to ensure it's ready.
Open the Questionnaire Task
Go to the client record and click the Tasks tab.
Find and click on the questionnaire task to open it.
Alternatively, use the global task list to search for the task name.
Inside the task, click View to open the questionnaire organizer.
Pre-Fill Options
Once the Questionnaire is open, a pop-up will appear with two options:
Pre-fill all – instantly autofills all suggested fields.
Fill out manually – opens the form with per-page and per-field suggestions.
If you choose Pre-fill all:
Heads up: Pre-fill answers are tuned toward standard accounting tax questions. Some custom questions might not generate a pre-fill answer.
Fields throughout the questionnaire will be automatically populated where applicable.
A number appears next to Pre-fill all to indicate how many fields are filled (e.g., Pre-fill all (125)).
You can navigate between sections at any time to review and edit answers.
To remove all pre-filled answers on a page, click Clear responses at the top of the Questionnaire.
If you’ve removed responses and want to re-apply the auto-fill, click Add responses at the top of the page.
To clear an individual pre-filled field, click the x next to it and enter a new answer.
If you choose Fill out manually:
Each page includes a button at the top: Add responses (x) to fill in that section.
Individual fields will also show autofill suggestions below them—click to apply.
Click Save in the upper-right corner to confirm any changes.
Reminder: Clients can still access and update their questionnaire responses until the task is marked as Completed.
Troubleshooting
If the pre-fill pop-up doesn’t appear:
Confirm the questionnaire was created after enabling AI Questionnaire Pre-fill.
Check that Experimental Features are still toggled on in Settings.
If expected fields aren't populating:
Ensure relevant data (e.g. W-2s, contact info) exists in the client record or files section.
Try closing and reopening the organizer if autofill options don’t display as expected.
Try archiving the Questionnaire task and resending it to the contact.
