How do I Verify My Imported Tags?

Review your tags in Canopy after the import to confirm they arrived correctly and are linked to the right clients, then notify your Data Migration Specialist.

Why it matters: The import may need adjustments — spelling corrections, capitalization fixes, or tags that didn't map correctly. Catching these now means your client list is clean and organized before your team starts using it.

Review Your Tags List

  1. Click the blue circle with your initials in the top right.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Select Tags.

Check that all your tags appear here and are spelled and capitalized the way you want them. If something is off, note it for the next step.



Verify Tags Are Linked to Clients

  1. Go to Clients > Client List.

  2. On the left side, click the three vertical lines (menu icon).

  3. Select Customize Client List.

  4. Check the box next to Tags under Firm Attributes.

  5. Select Done.

You'll now see a view of your clients with their tags displayed. Review this to confirm tags are mapped to the right clients and that nothing was missed.



Request Changes if Needed

Skip this section if you're satisfied with how the tags appear and are linked to clients.

If you spotted issues that need fixing, you have two options depending on the scope:

For large changes:

  1. Open your original CSV workbook or create an updated one with all corrections.

  2. Use the secure upload link from your Data Migration Specialist to resend the updated file.

For minor changes:

  1. Create a list or document of the changes you'd like made.

  2. Email it directly to your Data Migration Specialist.


Confirm Import Completion

  1. Within 7 business days of the import, email your Data Migration Specialist to let them know:

    • You've reviewed the tags

    • You're satisfied with the import (or that changes have been submitted)

  2. They'll confirm with your Implementation Specialist that you're ready for the next migration steps.
