How Do I Access and Use the Canopy API?

The Canopy API lets you connect Canopy to external tools and pull or push data like clients, files, invoices, and tasks.

Required: Available on Canopy's Plus or Premium plan.

Sync your firm's client list into an external CRM or BI tool for reporting, or connect your invoicing and task data into systems you're already using — no manual exports needed.

Table of Contents

Access API Management

  1. Click your profile icon in the bottom left corner.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Click API Management under the Profile section.

Generate and Manage Your API Key

If you haven't created a key yet, you'll see "No API Keys Yet."

  • Click Create API Key.

Once your key is generated, you have three options:

  • Preview — unhide the full key.

  • Copy — copies the key so you can use it in your integration right away.

  • Renew Key — generates a new key and invalidates the old one. Use this if your current key is compromised or you need a fresh one.

  • Revoke Key — disables the key, blocking any integration currently using it.

Available API Endpoints

The Canopy API covers 37 endpoints across 4 resource areas:
