Required permissions: View Insights and Create/Edit Insights must be enabled for your user.

Why it matters: Knowing which data points are available — and which data source to pull from — helps you build accurate reports faster and avoid gaps caused by selecting the wrong source.

How Data Sources Are Organized

Canopy Insights includes 7 data sources, each scoped to a specific area of your practice. Each source contains three types of data points:

  • Measures — Numeric values you can calculate or aggregate (e.g., hours, amounts, counts)

  • Attributes — Descriptive fields you can filter or group by (e.g., client name, task status, assignee)

  • Dates — Date fields you can use to filter by time range or track timelines

📝 Note: Admin data sources (Billing Admin, Time Admin) include cost-of-labor and additional rate data not visible in standard sources. These are only appropriate for users with admin-level access.
