How do I Filter and Export the General WIP Report?

Updated this week

Heads Up! If you are using the legacy version of the client and contact structure (CRM), check out this article here!

A Work in Progress (WIP) report shows all unbilled time for one or more clients. WIP reports can be printed, exported, or added to invoices so firms can bill throughout a project—not only at completion.

Why It Matters

WIP reporting helps firms bill faster, stay on top of unbilled time, and maintain healthier cash flow—especially during busy periods.

Table of Contents

Open the WIP Report

  1. Click Time in the global navigation bar.

  2. Select WIP Report.

Filter the WIP Report

Team Member

Filter by the team member assigned to the time entry.

Owner

Filter by the owner assigned to the client.

Group By

Choose how to group the time entries:

  • Client

  • Client Group

If you select Client:

  • An additional Client dropdown appears so you can view WIP for a specific client.

If you select Client Group:

  • All WIP for clients within that group is displayed.

  • A Client Group dropdown appears to refine the view.

Service Item

Filter to a specific service item used on the time entry.

Role

Filter WIP by Role to quickly review unbilled time by staff responsibilities (e.g., Preparer, Reviewer, Manager).

  1. Click the Role dropdown.

  2. Select one or more roles to apply the filter.

Date Filter

By default, the report shows the last 30 days. You can update the filter to:

  • Today

  • Yesterday

  • This week

  • Last week

  • This month

  • Last month

  • Year to date

  • Custom range

Show Scheduled Auto-Link Time

Toggle on to include time entries scheduled to auto-link to a recurring invoice.

Print or Export the WIP Report

Print

Click Print to generate a PDF.

  • If the dataset is large, a pop-up will notify you that the PDF will be emailed once processing finishes.

Export to CSV

  1. Click the Options menu.

  2. Select Export to CSV.

Heads up!

  • Printed PDFs automatically total client data.

  • CSV exports do not total data by default.

  • To include totals in the CSV export, enable the feature in Settings > Experimental Features.

Please Note: If there is a large amount of data to print, there will be a pop-up letting you know that we'll email you a PDF when your data finishes processing.
